Code My Crown with Dove -Changing the game for Black hair

"Code My Crown" is a pioneering endeavour initiated in 2022, and led by the Dove brand, aiming to revolutionise the depiction of Black hair in video games. This innovative project is designed to honour and uplift the diverse textures and protective styles of Black hair in virtual worlds.

At its core, this initiative reflects Dove's dedication to fostering inclusivity and representation in the gaming sphere. Over time, Black hair has often been side-lined or misrepresented in video games, reinforcing harmful stereotypes, and limiting players' options for character customisation.

Through "Code My Crown," Dove is determined to challenge these conventions and promote a more inclusive gaming environment. By collaborating with game developers, artists, and cultural experts, the project seeks to authentically portray the beauty and versatility of Black hair. This includes offering players a wide range of hairstyles and customisation choices that reflect real-world experiences.

Furthermore, "Code My Crown" serves as a platform for education and dialogue, aiming to raise awareness about the cultural significance of Black hair. By amplifying diverse voices and experiences, Dove hopes to spark meaningful conversations about representation, identity, and cultural appreciation both within the gaming community and beyond.

Ultimately, "Code My Crown" represents a significant leap towards greater diversity and inclusion in video games. By celebrating and embracing the richness of Black hair textures and styles, Dove and its collaborators are paving the way for a more authentic and empowering gaming experience for players of all backgrounds.

Behind the scenes, "Code My Crown" is a labour of love, brought to fruition through the dedication of numerous individuals and organisations. A.M. Darke and members of the Open-Source Afro Hair Library have played pivotal roles, providing expertise in accurately depicting Black hair in virtual environments. Additionally, independent 3D artists and leading Natural Hair stylists have contributed their talents to ensure the initiative's authenticity and diversity.

Together, these collaborators have invested countless hours in sculpting, consulting, and collaborating to bring "Code My Crown" to life. Their collective efforts signify a shared commitment to celebrating and empowering Black hair in the gaming industry, setting a new standard for representation and inclusion in video games.
